Tatyana Kononova
Director, "Quantum" Centre for the Development of Children's Creativity in Science and Engineering, Novomoskovsk
The educational centre in Novomoskovsk started working in January 2017 and is based at the Municipal Budget Educational Institution "Education Center No. 4". The first year of study is taken up with the "Basic Chemistry" programme, which comprises not only basic theoretical information but also a block of practical exercises, including research activities. For example, students become acquainted with the laboratory's equipment, learn to describe substances and prepare solutions of a given concentration on their own, carry out quantitative measurements with the help of various instruments and experiments to determine the solution medium. The children find the practical activities very exciting and this leads to them asking a lot of questions and taking a lot more interest in the theoretical lessons.
